What this trial studies

This observational study aims to evaluate pain perception in pediatric patients aged 8-12 years undergoing maxillary tooth extraction. It will compare the effectiveness of palatal injections using articaine HCl and lidocaine HCl against buccal infiltration anesthesia alone. A total of 96 children will be divided into six groups to assess pain levels using visual analogue scales and the Wong-Baker faces pain rating scale. The study seeks to determine whether a single palatal injection can provide adequate anesthesia compared to traditional methods.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are healthy children aged 8-12 years who require their first maxillary tooth extraction.

Not a fit: Patients with systemic diseases, acute toothaches, or previous tooth extraction experiences may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved pain management strategies for children undergoing dental procedures.

How similar studies have performed: While similar studies have explored local anesthesia in pediatric dentistry, this specific comparison of articaine and lidocaine with varying techniques is relatively novel.
