What this trial studies

This study aims to compare the outcomes of two different management strategies for calcular obstructive jaundice: performing endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) and laparoscopic cholecystectomy in one session versus staged management. Participants will be divided into three groups: one group will undergo ERCP followed by laparoscopic cholecystectomy in the same session, another group will have laparoscopic cholecystectomy followed by ERCP in the same session, and the third group will receive staged management. The goal is to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of these approaches in treating patients with gall bladder disease and obstructive jaundice.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 to 70 who have combined common bile duct and gallstones less than 1.5 cm and are fit for surgery.

Not a fit: Patients who are under 18 or over 70, unfit for surgery, or have stones larger than 1.5 cm will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide insights into the most effective management strategy for patients with calcular obstructive jaundice, potentially improving patient outcomes.

How similar studies have performed: While there may be studies comparing similar management strategies, this specific approach of comparing one session versus staged management for calcular obstructive jaundice is relatively novel.
