Comparing one-day and year-long training for neonatal resuscitation.
Longitudinal One Year Vs Single Day NRP Training: a Randomized Controlled Trial.
This study is testing whether a one-day training or a year-long training program helps new nurses in Canada better learn and keep the skills needed for neonatal resuscitation.

What this trial studies
This study evaluates the effectiveness of two different training approaches for neonatal resuscitation among newly recruited nurses in Canada. It compares a single-day training program with a longitudinal training approach over one year, addressing challenges such as budget constraints and high turnover rates in Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs). The goal is to determine which method better maintains knowledge and skills necessary for neonatal resuscitation, given the low frequency of critical events in practice. The study aims to ensure that nurses are adequately prepared and certified to handle emergencies in neonatal care.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are newly recruited neonatal and delivery room registered nurses from level 2 and 3 perinatal centers.
Not a fit: Registered nurses who have already completed NRP training in the past will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance the training and preparedness of nurses in neonatal resuscitation, ultimately improving outcomes for newborns in critical situations.
How similar studies have performed: While similar training approaches have been explored, this specific comparison of one-day versus longitudinal training in neonatal resuscitation is relatively novel.
