What this trial studies

This study aims to compare the effectiveness of three ultrasound-guided regional anesthetic techniques—Pectoral nerve block, Erector Spinae Plane block, and Serratus Anterior Plane block—in managing postoperative pain for patients undergoing elective breast surgeries. The research focuses on improving pain control, as inadequate management can lead to chronic pain and reliance on opioids, which have undesirable side effects. By utilizing these fascial plane blocks, the study seeks to reduce surgical stress response and enhance recovery outcomes for patients. The study will involve female participants aged 21 to 65 who are classified as ASA physical status I or II.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are females aged 21 to 65 years old, classified as ASA physical status I or II, who are scheduled for elective breast surgeries under general anesthesia.

Not a fit: Patients who may not benefit from this study include those with a BMI of 35 kg/m2 or higher, those with coagulation abnormalities, or those with psychiatric disorders that affect communication.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could significantly improve postoperative pain management for breast surgery patients, reducing reliance on opioids and enhancing recovery.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown the efficacy of similar fascial plane blocks in managing postoperative pain, indicating that this approach is supported by existing evidence.
