What this trial studies

This clinical trial aims to evaluate the effectiveness of combining low-level light therapy (LLLT) with intense pulsed light (IPL) compared to IPL alone in treating meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD). Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either the combined treatment or IPL only, with both groups also receiving standard care including warm compresses and lid hygiene. The study will assess whether the addition of LLLT enhances treatment outcomes for patients suffering from MGD.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals with moderate to severe meibomian gland dysfunction and Fitzpatrick skin types 1-4.

Not a fit: Patients with recent ocular trauma, contact lens wearers, or those with uncontrolled ocular or systemic diseases may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could provide a more effective treatment option for patients with meibomian gland dysfunction.

How similar studies have performed: While the combination of LLLT and IPL is a novel approach, previous studies have shown success with IPL alone in treating MGD.
