What this trial studies

This study investigates the incidence of regurgitation during intubation in patients undergoing general anesthesia, comparing two positions: semi-fowler and supine. The goal is to determine which position is safer and more effective in preventing aspiration pneumonia, a serious complication associated with anesthesia. By analyzing the outcomes of patients in both positions, the study aims to provide evidence-based recommendations for clinical practice.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 to 60 who are able to communicate effectively.

Not a fit: Patients who are under 18, over 60, pregnant, handicapped, or have intestinal obstruction may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved safety during intubation and reduced risk of aspiration pneumonia for patients undergoing general anesthesia.

How similar studies have performed: While there may be existing studies on intubation positions, this specific comparison of semi-fowler versus supine in the context of aspiration prevention is relatively novel.
