What this trial studies
This study evaluates the effectiveness of the CHAMPION program, which integrates management strategies for childhood obesity and asthma, delivered either in-person or via telehealth. It is designed as a two-arm, individually randomized non-inferiority trial involving 500 children aged 6 to 17.9 years who are overweight or obese and have persistent asthma. The goal is to improve access to effective treatments for these conditions in lower-income, diverse populations, aligning with established health guidelines.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are children aged 6-17.9 years with a BMI at or above the 85th percentile and a diagnosis of asthma.
Not a fit: Patients with anorexia nervosa or those planning to change pediatricians in the next year may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could provide a more accessible and effective way to manage obesity and asthma in children.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using telehealth for managing chronic conditions, suggesting this approach could be effective.
