What this trial studies

This trial investigates the effectiveness of in-person versus online supervised prenatal exercise programs aimed at improving maternal physical activity, fitness, and overall health during pregnancy. It targets pregnant women between 13 and 20 weeks gestation who have no absolute contraindications to exercise. Participants will engage in a multi-site exercise program that can be conducted at home, fitness centers, universities, or hospitals. The study aims to provide evidence on the best approach to support physical activity among pregnant women, especially in light of the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are pregnant women aged 18-50, between 13 and 20 weeks of gestation, who can understand Portuguese and have no absolute contraindications to exercise.

Not a fit: Patients with high-risk pregnancy conditions or absolute contraindications to exercise will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance maternal health outcomes and promote a healthier lifestyle during and after pregnancy.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown positive outcomes with supervised exercise interventions during pregnancy, but the comparison of in-person versus online formats is relatively novel.
