What this trial studies

This study examines the effectiveness of open surgical reconstruction for patients with hip abductor tendon tears by comparing it to a sham surgery. Participants will be randomly assigned to either the surgical repair group or the sham surgery group, with outcomes assessed at three and six months post-surgery. The primary measure of effectiveness will be patient-reported pain using the revised Copenhagen Hip And Groin Outcome Score. Rehabilitation will be guided by a physiotherapist who is blinded to the group allocation, ensuring unbiased assessment of outcomes.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients aged 30 and above with MRI-verified hip abductor tendon pathology and lateral hip pain lasting more than 12 months.

Not a fit: Patients with previous hip surgeries, significant osteoarthritis, or cognitive issues may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide evidence for more effective treatment options for patients suffering from hip abductor tendon tears.

How similar studies have performed: While similar studies have explored surgical interventions for hip injuries, this specific comparison of surgical repair versus sham surgery is relatively novel.
