Comparing HEAVEN Criteria and Modified LEMON Score for Predicting Difficult Intubation

Cross Sectional Study to Determine Whether HEAVEN CRITERIA is a Better Tool Than Modified LEMON Score for Predicting Difficult Intubation in In-hospital Emergency Airway Management

Observational Jubilee Mission Medical College and Research Institute · NCT05954533

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the HEAVEN criteria compared to the Modified LEMON score in predicting difficult intubation in emergency department patients. Given the high incidence of difficult intubations in critically ill patients, the study seeks to improve early recognition of potential intubation challenges. By systematically assessing these two prediction tools, the study hopes to enhance patient safety and outcomes during emergency intubations.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include patients undergoing endotracheal intubation in the emergency department who can legally provide consent.

Not a fit: Patients who are in cardio-respiratory arrest or those who do not consent to participate in the study may not benefit.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved prediction of difficult intubations, thereby reducing complications and enhancing patient safety during emergency procedures.

How similar studies have performed: While existing studies have explored various airway prediction tools, the comparative analysis of HEAVEN criteria and Modified LEMON score in this specific context is relatively novel.
