Comparing fit of polished and non-polished all-metal crowns

Comparison of Marginal Fit and Internal Adaptation in All-Metal Crowns: an in Vitro Experimental Trial

Observational Altamash Institute of Dental Medicine · NCT06067945

What this trial studies

This observational study evaluates the marginal fit and internal adaptation of all-metal crowns using both polished and non-polished crown preparations. It aims to determine whether non-polished preparations can achieve comparable results to polished ones in terms of fit and adaptation. The study utilizes phantom teeth and focuses on maxillary molars, employing a conventional lost-wax technique for crown fabrication. The findings could provide insights into dental crown preparation techniques and their impact on clinical outcomes.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are phantom teeth specifically maxillary molars prepared for all-metal crowns.

Not a fit: Patients with over-prepared or underprepared crowns, defective crowns, or issues with silicone films will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve dental crown preparation methods, leading to better fitting crowns and enhanced patient outcomes.

How similar studies have performed: While this study focuses on a specific comparison, similar studies in dental materials have shown varying degrees of success, indicating that the approach has been explored but may still yield novel insights.
