What this trial studies
This clinical trial aims to compare the effectiveness of face-to-face group voice therapy with telepractice group voice therapy for individuals suffering from muscle tension dysphonia (MTD). Participants will be randomly assigned to either telepractice or face-to-face therapy sessions. The study will evaluate not only the effectiveness of both therapy modes but also factors such as therapy dropout rates, adherence to treatment schedules, and the associated costs of each approach. Additionally, the role of group dynamics in treatment outcomes will be explored.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are Chinese-speaking adults aged 18 and older diagnosed with primary or secondary muscle tension dysphonia.
Not a fit: Patients with dysphonia of neurogenic or psychogenic origin or those who cannot participate in telepractice due to low computer literacy may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide evidence for the effectiveness of telepractice voice therapy, making treatment more accessible for patients with muscle tension dysphonia.
How similar studies have performed: While telepractice in voice therapy is gaining interest, this specific comparison of telepractice versus face-to-face therapy for MTD is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
Eligibility criteria
