What this trial studies

This observational study aims to evaluate and compare various health metrics, including maximal exercise capacity, respiratory functions, physical activity levels, and quality of life, between children diagnosed with primary immunodeficiency diseases (PID) and healthy individuals. The study will involve 26 PID patients and 26 age- and sex-matched healthy controls, with statistical analyses performed to identify differences between the two groups. The findings are expected to provide insights into how PID affects physical health and overall quality of life in affected children.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are children aged 6-18 years diagnosed with primary immunodeficiency diseases who are receiving standard medical treatment.

Not a fit: Patients with orthopedic or neurological disorders affecting exercise capacity, or those with acute infections, may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of the impact of primary immunodeficiency on children's health and inform better management strategies.

How similar studies have performed: While there is limited data on similar studies specifically focusing on exercise capacity in PID patients, the approach of comparing health metrics with healthy controls has been utilized in other contexts with varying degrees of success.
