What this trial studies

This clinical trial aims to evaluate the effectiveness of Evolutionary Systems Therapy for Schizotypy (ESTS) compared to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in treating Schizotypal Personality Disorder (SPD). A total of 38 patients diagnosed with SPD will be randomly assigned to receive either ESTS or CBT, with the primary focus on reducing general symptoms. Secondary outcomes will assess changes in self-criticism and metacognition, as well as remission from the diagnosis. The study seeks to provide insights into the feasibility and effectiveness of ESTS without the influence of mandatory pharmacological treatment.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 or older diagnosed with Schizotypal Personality Disorder who can participate in therapy conducted in Italian.

Not a fit: Patients with schizophrenia spectrum disorders, other psychotic disorders, neurodevelopmental or neurological disorders, bipolar disorder, or those currently undergoing psychological or pharmacological treatment may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could offer a new therapeutic option for patients with Schizotypal Personality Disorder.

How similar studies have performed: While previous studies have suggested the potential effectiveness of ESTS, this approach is being tested in a new context without mandatory pharmacological treatment, making it a novel investigation.
