Comparing esophagitis in achalasia patients after treatment
Comparative Assessment of Reflux Esophagitis in Cases With and Without Esophageal Motility Disorders
NA · Asian Institute of Gastroenterology, India · NCT06835374

What this trial studies
This study aims to evaluate and compare the characteristics of esophagitis in patients with achalasia who undergo per-oral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) versus those without esophageal motility disorders. It involves collecting demographic data, manometry findings, and follow-up assessments including GERD questionnaires and endoscopic evaluations three months post-procedure. The goal is to understand the impact of POEM on reflux-related erosions and to characterize the differences in esophagitis morphology. Patients will be monitored for changes in symptoms and esophageal function after treatment.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older with a confirmed diagnosis of achalasia and erosive esophagitis.
Not a fit: Patients with non-esophageal motility disorders or those currently using proton pump inhibitors may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve understanding of esophagitis in achalasia patients, leading to better management strategies.
How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies on achalasia and esophagitis, this specific comparative approach is relatively novel.
