What this trial studies

This study investigates whether ephedrine can effectively replace dexmedetomidine for preventing shivering in women undergoing cesarean sections with spinal anesthesia. Shivering is a common issue during regional anesthesia, affecting patient comfort and satisfaction. The trial will compare the efficacy of these two medications in managing shivering, focusing on their physiological effects and overall patient outcomes. Eligible participants are adult females aged 18 to 35 with uncomplicated pregnancies scheduled for elective cesarean deliveries.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adult females aged 18 to 35 with uncomplicated pregnancies scheduled for elective cesarean deliveries.

Not a fit: Patients who refuse participation, have allergies to the drugs, contraindications for spinal anesthesia, or have diabetes or thyroid disorders may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide a more effective and comfortable option for managing shivering during cesarean sections.

How similar studies have performed: While the use of dexmedetomidine is well-established, the potential replacement with ephedrine for this specific purpose is less explored, making this a novel approach.
