What this trial studies

This study evaluates the effectiveness of two types of patient decision aids for individuals diagnosed with breast or colorectal cancer. It compares an electronic decision aid provided before consultations with a paper-based aid used during consultations. The goal is to understand how these different formats influence patient engagement and decision-making processes. A total of 274 patients will participate, with data collected on their experiences and the perceived levels of shared decision-making between patients and consultants.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older with histologically verified breast or colorectal cancer.

Not a fit: Patients who cannot read Danish or do not own a mobile smartphone may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance patient understanding and involvement in treatment decisions, leading to better outcomes.

How similar studies have performed: While there have been various studies on patient decision aids, this specific comparison of pre-consultation versus in-consultation formats is novel and has not been extensively tested.
