Comparing eccentric stretching and IASTM for ankle sprains in athletes

Effect of Eccentric Streching vs IASTM of Gastrocnemius and Soleus Muscles in Athletes With Ankle Sprain

Not applicable Interventional Riphah International University · NCT06241001

What this trial studies

This study aims to compare the effects of eccentric stretching and Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) on improving ankle dorsiflexion range of motion in athletes with ankle sprains. It focuses on both acute and chronic outcomes, hypothesizing that these interventions can enhance muscle strength and flexibility, thereby reducing the risk of further injuries like Achilles tendinopathy. Participants will undergo either eccentric training or IASTM to assess which method is more effective in restoring normal function and mobility. The study is particularly relevant given the high incidence of ankle sprains in sports.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are athletes aged 18 and above who have experienced acute or subacute ankle sprains.

Not a fit: Patients with acute fractures, arthritis, or other significant lower extremity injuries may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide athletes with effective rehabilitation techniques to improve recovery from ankle sprains and prevent future injuries.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown promise for both eccentric training and IASTM in treating soft tissue injuries, suggesting that this approach may yield beneficial results.
