What this trial studies

This study investigates the timing of oral feeding resumption following small intestine surgery, focusing on the differences between early feeding initiated within 24 hours post-surgery and late feeding starting after 24-48 hours. The aim is to determine which approach leads to better recovery outcomes, including reduced hospital stay and lower rates of postoperative complications such as vomiting and anastomotic leaks. By analyzing patient recovery metrics, the study seeks to provide evidence-based recommendations for postoperative care.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients aged 15 to 65 undergoing elective small bowel anastomosis.

Not a fit: Patients on immunosuppressive drugs or with a history of gastrectomy may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved recovery protocols that shorten hospital stays and enhance patient outcomes after bowel surgery.

How similar studies have performed: Recent studies have suggested the benefits of early feeding, indicating that this approach may be supported by emerging evidence.
