What this trial studies

This pilot study aims to evaluate the safety of omitting abdominal drain placement during live donor hepatectomy compared to traditional drain placement. Patients undergoing donor hepatectomy will be randomly assigned to either the drain or no-drain group. The study will assess postoperative complications using the Comprehensive Complication Index (CCI) at the time of discharge. The goal is to determine if avoiding drain placement can reduce complications associated with donor surgery.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals scheduled for donor hepatectomy who consent to participate.

Not a fit: Patients who require intraoperative drain placement due to surgical factors will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to fewer complications and shorter hospital stays for liver donors.

How similar studies have performed: While the use of drains in surgical procedures is common, this specific comparison of drain versus no drain in live donor hepatectomy is relatively novel.
