What this trial studies

This study evaluates the effectiveness of general anesthesia, general anesthesia combined with an erector spinae plane (ESP) block, and a transforaminal lumbar interbody block (TLIP) in patients undergoing lumbar surgeries. The goal is to determine which method reduces opioid use during surgery and alleviates postoperative pain, potentially decreasing the incidence of failed back surgery syndrome. By comparing these regional anesthesia techniques, the study aims to improve patient outcomes and enhance recovery after lumbar procedures.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients scheduled for lumbar surgeries such as those with lumbar disc herniation or spinal stenosis.

Not a fit: Patients who may not benefit from this study include those with contraindications to regional anesthesia methods, such as certain medical conditions or those who refuse the procedure.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved pain management and reduced reliance on opioids for patients undergoing lumbar surgeries.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promising results with regional anesthesia techniques in spinal surgeries, indicating that this approach is supported by existing evidence.
