What this trial studies

This observational study aims to investigate the correlation between the presence of a buffalo hump and the severity of complications in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM). Participants will be recruited from an endocrine outpatient department and will undergo a thorough clinical examination, including assessments of microvascular and macrovascular complications. The study focuses on Asian Indian patients, who are known to develop T2DM at a younger age and experience more severe complications. By comparing those with a double hump to those without, the study seeks to enhance understanding of the relationship between physical characteristics and diabetes-related health outcomes.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals aged 20 to 70 years with a diagnosis of T2DM for up to 30 years and a BMI between 25 and 40 kg/m².

Not a fit: Patients with a BMI over 40 kg/m², severe end organ damage, or other significant chronic diseases may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved risk stratification and management strategies for patients with T2DM based on physical characteristics.

How similar studies have performed: While the specific correlation between buffalo hump and diabetes complications has not been extensively studied, similar observational studies have shown that physical characteristics can be indicative of health outcomes in diabetes.
