Comparing computer-based auditory training with standard care for cochlear implant patients
Assessing the Effect of Computer-based Auditory Training on Adult Cochlear Implant Speech and Quality-of-life Outcomes
NA · Mayo Clinic · NCT06607146

What this trial studies
This study evaluates the effectiveness of a free computer-based auditory training program called Sound Success against the standard patient-directed auditory training for adults receiving cochlear implants. The focus is on improving speech recognition and quality-of-life outcomes in new cochlear implant recipients during their first year post-activation. Participants will be adults with bilateral moderate-to-profound sensorineural hearing loss undergoing cochlear implantation at the Mayo Clinic. The study aims to determine if the computer-based program offers significant advantages over traditional training methods.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults with bilateral moderate-to-profound sensorineural hearing loss who are undergoing cochlear implantation.
Not a fit: Patients who are undergoing revision implantation or those who cannot use a computer may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance speech recognition and overall quality of life for cochlear implant recipients.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown promise in using computer-based auditory training, but this specific approach is relatively novel.
Eligibility criteria
