Comparing capsular closure techniques in hip surgery for femoroacetabular impingement

Capsula Closure Versus Non-Capsula Closure During Hip Arthroscopy in Danish Patients With Femoroacetabular Impingement (FAI)

Not applicable Interventional Aarhus University Hospital · NCT03158454

What this trial studies

This study investigates the effects of capsular closure versus non-capsular closure during hip arthroscopy in patients diagnosed with femoroacetabular impingement (FAI). It aims to determine if capsular closure leads to better patient-reported outcomes compared to leaving the capsule open after surgery. Patients will undergo a minimum of three months of physiotherapy before being considered for surgery. The outcomes will be measured using validated patient-reported outcome measures to assess the effectiveness of the surgical techniques.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients with radiological and symptomatic femoroacetabular impingement who have not undergone previous hip surgery.

Not a fit: Patients with prior hip surgeries, malignant diseases, or significant hip joint conditions may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve surgical outcomes and recovery for patients with femoroacetabular impingement.

How similar studies have performed: While similar studies on surgical techniques exist, this specific comparison of capsular closure methods in FAI is relatively novel.
