What this trial studies

This study compares the effects of the Papworth technique and Pranayama on patients with asthma. Both techniques aim to modify breathing patterns to alleviate symptoms such as breathlessness and improve overall respiratory function. Participants will be randomly assigned to either the Papworth technique or Pranayama group and will undergo treatment over four weeks with three sessions each week. Data will be collected from asthmatic patients at Gulab Devi Chest Hospital using non-probability convenience sampling.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are males and females aged 20-40 years with mild to moderate chronic asthma and adverse mood effects.

Not a fit: Patients with acute severe asthma, chronic chest infections, or other significant respiratory or cardiac conditions may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide effective non-pharmacological interventions for asthma management, improving patients' quality of life.

How similar studies have performed: While similar breathing techniques have been explored, this specific comparison of the Papworth technique and Pranayama in asthmatic patients is relatively novel.
