Comparing bone graft techniques for ridge augmentation in the front of the mouth
Ridge Splitting Using Autogenous Bone Wedge Versus the Conventional Intercortical Augmentation Technique in Horizontally Deficient Anterior Maxilla A Randomized Clinical Trial
This study is testing whether using bone taken from the chin or a mix of bone particles works better for improving the bone in the front of the mouth for patients with a ridge deficiency.

What this trial studies
This clinical trial evaluates the effectiveness of using autogenous bone wedges versus mixed bone particles for ridge augmentation in patients with horizontal ridge deficiency in the anterior maxilla. It involves 20 patients who are randomly assigned to two groups: one receiving autogenous bone wedges harvested from the chin and the other receiving mixed bone particles. The study aims to assess both the quality and quantity of bone gained and maintained after the procedures. The focus is on improving outcomes in the aesthetic zone of the mouth.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients with a horizontally deficient anterior maxillary ridge who meet specific anatomical and health criteria.
Not a fit: Patients with systemic diseases affecting bone healing or inadequate ridge dimensions will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance bone augmentation techniques, leading to better aesthetic outcomes for patients requiring dental implants.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown varying success with different bone grafting techniques, but this specific comparison is novel.
Eligibility criteria
Show full inclusion / exclusion criteria
Inclusion Criteria: 1. All patients possessed partially edentulous anterior maxillary ridge with the following criteria 1. The anterior maxillary vertical dimension was more than ten mm measured from the alveolar crest to the basal bone of the maxilla. 2. The horizontal alveolar dimension varies from 3-5 mm at the crest and 6-8 mm at the basal part of the ridge measured from the labial cortex to the lingual cortex. 2. All patients were free from any medical conditions that may affect bone healing . 3. No local pathosis that may interfere with bone healing. 4. No previous grafting procedures at the indicated edentulous ridge. \- Exclusion Criteria: 1- Patients suffering from any systemic disease that may affect bone healing. 2- Patients with less than 3mm labio palatal alveolar ridge width. 3- Ridge with inadequate vertical bone height. 4- Presence of any local pathosis that may interfere with bone healing. 5- Patients unable to continue the whole follow up. \-
