What this trial studies

This study compares the fasting blood glucose levels measured from fingertip pricks versus intravenous methods in patients with diabetes mellitus. It aims to evaluate patient satisfaction with each method, hypothesizing that intravenous measurement may enhance comfort and satisfaction. The study is designed as a randomized controlled trial, focusing on hospitalized patients who have been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus for at least one year. Participants will be monitored for their responses to both measurement techniques.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are hospitalized adults aged 18 and older with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus who can communicate effectively and consent to participate.

Not a fit: Patients with advanced cognitive impairments, those on sedative or antipsychotic medications, or those requiring continuous drug infusion may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved patient satisfaction and comfort in blood glucose monitoring for diabetes patients.

How similar studies have performed: While similar studies have explored patient comfort in blood glucose monitoring, this specific comparison of intravenous versus fingertip methods is relatively novel.
