What this trial studies
This observational study aims to analyze long-term outcomes of biological versus mechanical heart valves using data from a hospital's integrated medical database and the National Health Insurance database. The research focuses on the effectiveness and performance of these valves in various patient populations, including young individuals, the elderly, and those with specific health conditions. By examining data from patients who underwent valve replacement surgery between 2007 and 2019, the study seeks to provide insights and recommendations for valve selection in different demographics.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients diagnosed with valve diseases who have undergone valve replacement surgery.
Not a fit: Patients under 20 years of age will not benefit from this study as they are excluded from participation.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could help optimize valve replacement strategies, leading to improved patient outcomes and tailored treatment options.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have explored similar comparisons between biological and mechanical valves, indicating a growing interest in this area, though specific outcomes may vary.
