What this trial studies

Healthy, medically free adolescents will be assigned to use either a bamboo toothbrush or a conventional plastic toothbrush, with plaque measured before and after brushing using a standard dental plaque index. The comparison is conducted at Cairo University under the lead sponsor Heba Helal. Participants who cannot perform independent toothbrushing are excluded. The aim is a direct, head-to-head comparison of plaque removal performance between the two brush types.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Healthy adolescents who are medically free and able to perform their own toothbrushing are the ideal candidates.

Not a fit: People who cannot brush independently or who are not adolescents are unlikely to receive benefit from this comparison.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If bamboo brushes remove plaque as well as plastic ones, adolescents could have an effective, more sustainable toothbrush option.

How similar studies have performed: Small prior comparisons (mostly in adults) suggest bamboo brushes can perform similarly to plastic brushes, but high-quality data in adolescents are limited.
