What this trial studies

This clinical trial investigates the effectiveness of the Airtraq video laryngoscope for intubation in men with morbid obesity compared to non-obese men. Participants will be divided into two groups based on their body mass index, and the primary focus will be on measuring the time taken for intubation. Additional data on insertion time, perioperative hemodynamic variables, and postoperative complications will also be collected. The study aims to address the challenges of intubating morbidly obese men, a group that has not been extensively studied with this technology.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are men over 18 years old who are undergoing elective operations requiring intubation.

Not a fit: Patients under 18 years old or women may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve intubation success rates and safety for morbidly obese men undergoing elective surgeries.

How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies on intubation techniques in obese patients, this specific comparison using the Airtraq in morbidly obese men is novel.
