Comparing aerobic exercise on an elliptical trainer and treadmill for people with Multiple Sclerosis
The Effect of Aerobic Exercise on an Elliptical Trainer Versus a Treadmill, on Gait and Walking Abilities, Expressed in Dynamic Stability, Balance and Walking Speed, in People with Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
This study tests whether exercising on an elliptical trainer or a treadmill helps people with moderate Multiple Sclerosis improve their walking abilities and balance over 12 weeks.

What this trial studies
This study aims to evaluate the effects of aerobic exercise training on an elliptical trainer versus a treadmill in individuals with moderate Multiple Sclerosis. A total of 30 participants will be enrolled and assigned to one of two groups for a 12-week exercise program, with sessions occurring twice a week. The study will measure various outcomes related to gait and walking abilities, including dynamic stability, balance, and walking speed, using standardized tests at multiple time points. Heart rate and perceived exertion will also be monitored to assess effort capacity during the training.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 25-55 with a confirmed diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis, experiencing moderate severity as indicated by an EDSS score of 3.0-6.5.
Not a fit: Patients with active heart disease, respiratory issues, or other significant medical conditions may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve gait and walking abilities in patients with Multiple Sclerosis, enhancing their quality of life.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown positive outcomes with aerobic exercise interventions in Multiple Sclerosis, suggesting that this approach may be beneficial.
