What this trial studies

This study aims to determine which type of colonoscope, adult or pediatric, is more effective for performing colonoscopies in obese patients with a body mass index greater than 30. The trial will involve randomized controlled comparisons to assess the performance and outcomes associated with each colonoscope type. The choice of colonoscope currently relies on physician preference, and this study seeks to provide evidence-based guidance for optimal selection in this patient population.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults with a body mass index greater than 30 who require screening or surveillance colonoscopy.

Not a fit: Patients who have had prior colon surgery, therapeutic colonoscopy, or specific conditions like inflammatory bowel disease may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve the effectiveness and safety of colonoscopies in obese patients.

How similar studies have performed: While the approach of comparing different types of colonoscopes is not widely tested, similar studies in other contexts have shown varying degrees of success.
