Comparing 3D hip joint structure in healthy individuals and those with hip deformities

MRI-based 3D Hip Labrum and Cartilage Morphology in Patients With Hip Deformities Compared to Asymptomatic Volunteers

Insel Gruppe AG, University Hospital Bern · NCT06095219

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to describe the normal 3D morphology of the hip joint in asymptomatic volunteers and compare it to patients with various hip deformities. Participants will undergo a non-contrast MRI at 3 Tesla using a high-resolution 3D sequence that allows for detailed segmentation of the labrum and cartilage. The study seeks to enhance the understanding of hip joint structures, which could improve diagnosis and surgical planning for hip deformities. Data from previous patients with hip deformities will be utilized for comparison.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults over 18 years old with no significant hip pain or history of hip-related diseases.

Not a fit: Patients with significant hip pain, previous hip diseases, or those unsuitable for MRI will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved diagnostic techniques and surgical planning for patients with hip deformities.

How similar studies have performed: While this approach is novel in its comprehensive 3D analysis of hip morphology, similar studies have shown the importance of advanced imaging techniques in understanding joint deformities.
