What this trial studies
This clinical trial investigates the effects of two different orthodontic appointment intervals—3 weeks versus 6 weeks—on the alignment of teeth in patients with moderate to severe dental crowding. Participants aged 16-30 with specific irregularity indices will be randomly assigned to one of the two groups. The study aims to measure changes in tooth alignment and compare the effectiveness of the two appointment schedules. The findings could provide insights into optimizing orthodontic treatment durations.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients aged 16-30 with a Little's irregularity index between 5mm and 12mm and a healthy periodontium.
Not a fit: Patients with irregularity indices outside the specified range, active periodontal disease, or systemic conditions may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to more effective orthodontic treatment protocols, potentially reducing treatment time for patients.
How similar studies have performed: While there is inconclusive evidence regarding orthodontic appointment intervals, this study aims to provide new insights into treatment duration, making it a potentially novel approach.
