Community spread of multiple infectious diseases in Cambodia from a One Health perspective

Risk Assessment of Community Spread of Multiple Endemic Infectious Diseases in a One Health Perspective

Observational Institut Pasteur du Cambodge · NCT07358910

What this trial studies

RACSMEI is a nationwide One Health, multi-pathogen effort using a nationally representative population survey combined with animal and environmental sampling. The project pairs social-science interviews with multiplex laboratory diagnostics to test for 57 priority pathogens and builds a structured biobank and curated datasets. Mathematical modeling and integrated analysis will link burden, ecology, transmission patterns, and population immunity to inform public-health decisions. The program also includes capacity building and stakeholder engagement to strengthen national institutions and promote uptake of results.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal participants are residents of selected Cambodian villages who have lived there more than six months, are between 2 and 75 years old, and can provide appropriate consent or parental consent and assent for minors.

Not a fit: People who live outside the selected Cambodian communities, are younger than 2 or older than 75, are under guardianship or deprived of liberty, unable to consent, or seeking direct medical treatment rather than survey participation are unlikely to benefit from this observational project.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the project could enable targeted, culturally appropriate prevention and control measures and strengthen national surveillance to reduce infectious-disease burden.

How similar studies have performed: Similar multi-pathogen serosurveys and One Health approaches have produced useful public-health insights elsewhere, but a nationwide integrated effort covering 57 pathogens in Cambodia is novel.
