What this trial studies

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a community health worker (CHW) intervention in Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) to improve COVID-19 and influenza vaccination rates among adults with chronic illnesses. The intervention includes up to three psychoeducational sessions in English or Spanish, where CHWs address specific barriers to vaccination through education, motivation, and assistance in navigating healthcare resources. By utilizing motivational interviewing techniques, CHWs aim to empower patients to overcome obstacles and increase their vaccination uptake. The study focuses on addressing vaccination inequities among racial and ethnic minorities who may face various social and structural barriers.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older with chronic illnesses who have received a COVID-19 vaccine but have not yet received an updated vaccine.

Not a fit: Patients who are acutely sick, have a high suicide risk, or are unwilling to consent will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly increase vaccination rates among vulnerable populations, leading to better health outcomes and reduced transmission of COVID-19.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with community health worker interventions in improving vaccination rates, indicating that this approach is promising and supported by prior evidence.
