What this trial studies

This pilot project investigates a treatment program for children with social anxiety disorder, where children and their parents undergo separate but parallel evidence-based interventions. After an initial diagnostic phase, participants will be randomly assigned to a waiting period before starting tailored cognitive behavioral therapy for children and supportive parenting strategies for parents. Throughout the treatment, participants will provide daily feedback through Experience Sampling Methods, allowing researchers to assess the interaction and effectiveness of both programs. The study includes multiple assessments at various stages to evaluate progress and outcomes.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are children diagnosed with social anxiety disorder whose parents are willing to participate in the treatment.

Not a fit: Patients currently undergoing treatment for anxiety or those with other pressing mental health issues may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly improve treatment outcomes for children with social anxiety by addressing both the child and parent simultaneously.

How similar studies have performed: While the approach of combining parent and child treatments is innovative, similar studies have shown promise in addressing childhood anxiety, suggesting potential for success.
