What this trial studies

This study investigates the effects of adding local anesthesia to general inhalational anesthesia during external dacryocystorhinostomy surgery. It aims to evaluate the total anesthetic requirements, intraoperative hemodynamics, blood loss, and satisfaction levels of both surgeons and patients. Additionally, the study will compare postoperative outcomes, including analgesia and nausea, between the combined anesthesia approach and traditional methods. The goal is to determine if this combination improves the quality of the surgical procedure.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 20 to 50 years with ASA physical status I or II undergoing elective unilateral dacryocystorhinostomy.

Not a fit: Patients with endoscopic dacryocystorhinostomy, allergies to local anesthetics or opioids, drug abuse issues, or those who are pregnant may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could enhance patient comfort and satisfaction while reducing the need for additional pain management post-surgery.

How similar studies have performed: While the combination of local and general anesthesia has been explored in various surgical contexts, this specific approach in dacryocystorhinostomy is relatively novel.
