What this trial studies
This clinical trial investigates the effects of two weeks of light therapy combined with continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) on improving compliance in patients suffering from major depressive disorder (MDD) and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). The study aims to recruit 130 adults diagnosed with MDD and OSA, assessing whether the addition of light therapy can enhance adherence to CPAP treatment. The trial is designed as a double-blind, parallel-group controlled trial, focusing on the relationship between sleep disturbances and depressive symptoms. By addressing both conditions simultaneously, the study seeks to improve overall patient outcomes.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults diagnosed with major depressive disorder and obstructive sleep apnea who require CPAP treatment.
Not a fit: Patients with unstable psychiatric conditions or contraindications to light therapy may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly improve CPAP compliance and alleviate depressive symptoms in patients with MDD and OSA.
How similar studies have performed: While the combination of light therapy and CPAP is a novel approach, existing studies have shown that treating sleep disturbances can improve depressive symptoms.
