What this trial studies

This clinical trial investigates the effects of a combination treatment involving DAOIB, an NMDA-enhancing agent, and an antioxidant in patients with early-stage dementia, specifically Alzheimer's disease and mild cognitive impairment. The study aims to determine if this combined approach can improve cognitive function more effectively than using DAOIB alone. Participants will be assessed based on their cognitive status and will receive either the combination treatment or a placebo. The trial is designed to provide insights into the potential benefits of dual therapy in early dementia.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include individuals diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease or mild cognitive impairment who have a Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) score between 10 and 26.

Not a fit: Patients with severe comorbid conditions, such as major depressive disorder or significant physical illnesses, may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this treatment could enhance cognitive function in patients with early dementia, potentially slowing disease progression.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown some success with NMDA-enhancing agents and antioxidants in dementia treatment, but this specific combination approach is novel.
