What this trial studies
This observational study aims to gather tissue samples from adults diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer, small cell lung cancer, extrapulmonary small cell cancer, pulmonary neuroendocrine tumors, and thymic epithelial tumors. Participants will undergo medical history screening, physical exams, and may provide blood, urine, saliva, and tumor biopsy samples. The collected samples will be used for in-depth genomic and proteomic analyses to enhance understanding of tumor biology and treatment responses. This research is expected to contribute to future studies on lung cancer and improve diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults over 18 with confirmed diagnoses of specific lung and thymic cancers.
Not a fit: Patients with active major organ disorders or those with known HIV may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved diagnostic methods and treatment options for lung cancer patients.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies focusing on tissue collection and molecular profiling in lung cancer have shown promise, indicating that this approach is both relevant and potentially impactful.
Eligibility criteria
Show full inclusion / exclusion criteria
* INCLUSION CRITERIA: * Individuals with histologically or cytologically confirmed NSCLC, SCLC, ESCC, PNET, and TET. * Individuals consulted in the Clinical Center without a definitive diagnosis, but clinically considered likely to have a malignancy of the above histologies, pending further tissue acquisition and/or pathology review. * Age greater than or equal to18 years. Children are excluded from the study, as the above thoracic malignancies are rare in this population. * Ability of subject to understand and the willingness to sign a written informed consent document. EXCLUSION CRITERIA: * Active symptomatic major organ disorder that would increase the risk of biopsy, including but not limited to ischemic heart disease, recent myocardial infarction, active congestive heart failure, pulmonary dysfunction. * Active concomitant medical or psychological illnesses that may increase the risk to the subject, at the discretion of the Principal Investigator. * Known HIV-positive individuals not on combination antiretroviral therapy are ineligible.
