What this trial studies
This research focuses on gathering and storing blood, urine, tissue, and clinical data from patients diagnosed with amyloid diseases, particularly multiple myeloma. The collected samples will be used to establish a comprehensive database that correlates clinical outcomes with biological markers. Techniques such as polymerase chain reaction and various forms of spectroscopy will be employed to analyze the samples for specific amyloid protein characteristics and modifications. The study aims to enhance understanding of amyloid diseases and support future research efforts.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals diagnosed or suspected of having amyloidosis who are referred to the Amyloid Treatment and Research Center at Boston University Medical Center.
Not a fit: Patients who do not have a diagnosis or suspicion of amyloidosis will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for patients with amyloid diseases.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies focusing on the collection and analysis of biospecimens in amyloid diseases have shown promise in advancing understanding and treatment options.
