What this trial studies
This observational study aims to enroll girls and women aged 0-18 who are undergoing surgery involving the ovary, such as oophorectomy or ovarian cystectomy. The investigators will collect discarded ovarian tissue samples during these procedures to create an ovarian tissue library. The goal is to analyze how various ovarian conditions affect the number and quality of ovarian follicles and the overall reproductive potential of the ovary. No additional procedures will be performed solely for the study, ensuring that only tissue that would otherwise be discarded is collected.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are pre and post pubertal females aged 0-18 undergoing scheduled or emergent surgeries involving the ovary.
Not a fit: Patients who are pregnant will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of ovarian health and improve future reproductive outcomes for young females.
How similar studies have performed: While similar studies have explored ovarian tissue banking, this specific approach focusing on pediatric patients is relatively novel.
