What this trial studies
This observational study aims to gather and analyze retrospective data on mycetoma cases diagnosed in healthcare facilities across India and Senegal over a ten-year period. The study will assess the number of cases diagnosed annually, demographic and clinical characteristics of patients, and the etiology of mycetoma. Additionally, it will characterize the clinical management approaches, including diagnostic methods and treatment regimens, to better understand the disease's burden and treatment outcomes. The findings will help address knowledge gaps that hinder the development of effective treatments for this neglected tropical disease.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals diagnosed with mycetoma as documented in medical, radiologic, or laboratory records.
Not a fit: Patients with illegible or inaccessible health records will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide critical insights that lead to improved diagnosis and treatment options for patients suffering from mycetoma.
How similar studies have performed: While mycetoma is a poorly understood disease, similar observational studies have been conducted, but this specific approach to data collection is novel and aims to fill significant knowledge gaps.
