What this trial studies

This study evaluates the feasibility and acceptability of a co-designed program called Technology-Enabled Collaborative Care for Young Adults with Type 1 Diabetes and Diabetes Distress (TECC-T1D3). It involves enrolling 60 young adults who will be randomly assigned to either a coaching intervention or an education intervention over a 12-week period. The coaching group will engage in sessions with a health coach to discuss diabetes management and emotional wellbeing, while the education group will receive automated educational content. Surveys and interviews will be conducted to assess the impact of the interventions on participants' experiences and management of diabetes-related distress.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are young adults aged 18-29 living in Ontario with a self-reported diagnosis of Type 1 Diabetes for at least one year.

Not a fit: Patients who are unable to participate in English or those who cannot engage via telephone or web-conferencing may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly improve the quality of life for young adults with Type 1 Diabetes by addressing both their physical and mental health needs.

How similar studies have performed: While the integration of mental health support with diabetes management is a growing area of interest, this specific approach is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested in similar studies.
