Cohort for predicting gastric cancer in patients with intestinal metaplasia

A Prospective Cohort Study for Gastric Cancer Prediction in Patients With Intestinal Metaplasia

Observational Seoul National University Hospital · NCT06075199

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to establish a cohort of patients diagnosed with intestinal metaplasia to monitor the progression to gastric cancer over time. Patients at Seoul National University Hospital who have previously been diagnosed with intestinal metaplasia will undergo endoscopic procedures to collect tissue samples for histological analysis. These samples will be used to assess the severity of intestinal metaplasia and to identify potential biomarkers associated with the development of gastric cancer. Participants will be followed up with routine endoscopies to track any progression to cancer.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients who have been diagnosed with intestinal metaplasia during a prior endoscopy at Seoul National University Hospital.

Not a fit: Patients with a prior diagnosis of gastric cancer or adenoma, or those who have undergone gastrectomy, will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to the identification of biomarkers that help predict gastric cancer in at-risk patients.

How similar studies have performed: While similar studies have explored the relationship between intestinal metaplasia and gastric cancer, this specific cohort approach to identify predictive biomarkers is relatively novel.
