What this trial studies
This clinical trial aims to evaluate the effectiveness of screen delivery of cognitive therapy for youth aged 14-18 with social anxiety disorder, comparing it to traditional office delivery. The study will assess not only the effectiveness but also the acceptability and sustainability of this approach, while identifying factors that may influence therapy outcomes. Participants will be randomly assigned to either screen or office therapy after an initial screening and diagnostic interview. The trial is conducted across multiple centers in Norway, focusing on improving access to therapy for young people in rural areas.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are youth aged 14 to 18 years who have been diagnosed with social anxiety disorder and are fluent in Norwegian.
Not a fit: Patients with severe depression, acute suicidality, substance abuse issues, psychosis, intellectual disabilities, or significant school absenteeism may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could provide greater access to effective cognitive therapy for youth with social anxiety, potentially improving their mental health and social functioning.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using technology for delivering therapy, suggesting that this approach may be effective, though this specific method is relatively novel.
