What this trial studies
This study investigates the effectiveness of a cognitive reappraisal (CR) program in reducing symptoms of misophonia, a condition characterized by intense reactions to specific sounds. A total of 100 participants will be assigned to either a 4-week CR program or an Autogenic Training control group. The study will assess emotional regulation, anxiety, depression, and quality of life through questionnaires and task-based tests. The goal is to determine if the CR program can significantly improve responses to misophonic triggers compared to the control group.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are Polish-speaking adults aged 18-55 who experience stress due to eating sounds and have not undergone therapy in the last 3 months.
Not a fit: Patients who do not experience triggers related to eating sounds or have significant psychiatric disorders may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could provide a new, evidence-based treatment option for individuals suffering from misophonia.
How similar studies have performed: Preliminary research suggests cognitive reappraisal may help with misophonia symptoms, but this is one of the first studies to directly investigate its effectiveness.
