What this trial studies
This study aims to improve cognitive functions and diabetes management in individuals over 65 years old with type 2 diabetes through a combination of cognitive exercises and diabetes education. Participants will be randomized into three groups: one receiving cognitive exercises along with diabetes education, another receiving diabetes education only, and a control group receiving standard outpatient diabetes education. The intervention will last for 12 weeks, during which patients will engage with educational videos and cognitive exercises. Outcomes will be assessed in terms of cognitive function, glycemic control, and quality of life at baseline, 3 months, and 6 months post-intervention.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals over 65 years old with type 2 diabetes who do not have severe cognitive impairment.
Not a fit: Patients with type 1 diabetes, severe cognitive impairment, or significant neurological or psychiatric disorders may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could enhance cognitive function and diabetes management in elderly patients, leading to improved quality of life.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using cognitive interventions to improve health outcomes in diabetic patients, suggesting this approach may be beneficial.
