What this trial studies
This study is a randomized controlled trial that evaluates a multi-session cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) group intervention designed to enhance HIV outcomes for Latinx sexual minority men. The intervention focuses on improving coping strategies related to stigma stemming from various intersecting identities, including ethnicity and sexual orientation. By partnering with community organizations, the study aims to increase regular HIV testing and the uptake of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) among participants. The research will also explore the mechanisms behind the intervention's effectiveness and conduct a cost-effectiveness analysis.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are immigrant Latinx men who have sex with men, are HIV-negative or have an unknown serostatus, and can communicate in Spanish or English.
Not a fit: Patients who are HIV-positive, cisgender women, or transgender women will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly increase HIV testing and PrEP use among Latinx sexual minority men, leading to better health outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with similar culturally tailored interventions, indicating potential for positive outcomes in this approach.
